If you are interested in one of our events, but it has not been scheduled or perhaps it has been but is to be held at an unsuitable time, many can be scheduled at a time to suit you. Contact us for more information on arranging private or one-on-one events. Click on the links to the left for more information on the events we offer and their contents.

In addition to our regular program of workshops and other events, we can also arrange private and one-on-one tutoring in most subjects and at most levels to suit you and your needs. Practice tests and assessments, a special focus or even specific attainment targets can all be included. The first session between the tutor and the student(s) includes a discussion of expectations, and making agreements such what homework / preparation will be done for each session and how much.

The list of Subjects and Levels below changes regularly according to the availability of our tutors. If what you need does not appear here, please contact us.

Before you decide on Private Tutoring, you should be clear as to your needs and expectations so that you do not end up wasting your time and money. Most learning can be divided into Content-based (knowing, understanding) and Skills-based (doing, implementing or demonstrating Content) and to get the most from private tutoring, you should decide whether you need assistance more in one or in the other.

Content-based tutoring

The minimum program length for a private tutorial of five one-hour sessions is probably enough for content-based tutoring since here the focus is placed on knowledge, understanding, exploration of the material, and developing a critical insight and response. However, the amount of time and number of sessions required will depend on each individual’s needs and prior knowledge. Examples of content-based tutoring:

  • Causes of the US Civil War
  • Stalin
  • Vocabulary
  • Symbolism in The Great Gatsby
  • Cell Biology
  • Scarcity and Economic Choices

Skills-based tutoring

Skills-based tutoring requires regular and frequent practice to show real results (after all, practice does make perfect) and so the minimum number of five one-hour sessions may not be enough, although this again depends on each individual’s needs and prior skills-level. Examples of skills-based tutoring:

  • Creative writing
  • Essay writing
  • Spanish language
  • Sketching and drawing
  • Arithmetic
